Tilicho Lake holds the record as one of the highest lakes in the world at 4,919 meters. This challenging trek takes you off the main Annapurna Circuit trail to a pristine glacial lake surrounded by towering peaks, including the north face of Tilicho Peak (7,134m) and the massive Annapurna massif. The journey passes through the dramatic Manang Valley, ancient Buddhist villages, and some of the most spectacular high-altitude terrain in Nepal. Often combined with the Annapurna Circuit, this detour rewards those willing to push higher.

Drive from Kathmandu or Pokhara to Besisahar. Begin trekking along the Marsyangdi River valley through traditional villages.
Follow the river valley, crossing suspension bridges and passing waterfalls. The landscape begins to change as you gain altitude.
Enter the Manang District. Notice Tibetan-style architecture appearing. Pass through Tal village by the lake.
District headquarters with hot springs. First views of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. Apple orchards line the trail.
Pass through Pisang with views of Annapurna IV. Manang is the acclimatization hub with cafes, bakeries, and mountain views.
Essential rest day. Hike to Gangapurna Lake or Ice Lake. Visit the HRA clinic for altitude talk. Explore Braga monastery.
Leave the main Annapurna Circuit trail. Trek to the small village of Khangsar, gateway to Tilicho Lake. Simple teahouses.
Challenging climb through scree and rocky terrain. The landscape becomes barren and dramatic. Basic lodge accommodation.
Early morning start for the lake. The trail traverses landslide-prone slopes—take care. The turquoise lake surrounded by peaks is unforgettable. Return to base camp.
Cross the high pass toward Shree Kharka and rejoin the Annapurna Circuit at Yak Kharka. Option to continue to Thorong La or descend.
For the full experience, cross the legendary pass. Or descend via Manang back to Besisahar.
Continue the descent through Kagbeni to Jomsom or the apple orchards of Marpha.
Fly from Jomsom (weather permitting) or take the rough road through Kali Gandaki gorge to Pokhara.
High altitude with risk of AMS. Trail to the lake has exposed sections with landslide risk. Weather can change rapidly. Proper acclimatization in Manang is essential.
